Short thought of the day: What's right in a world of so much wrong?
If we constantly run into pitfalls in society via the mistakes of our past; why do we insist on upholding other things based upon those mistakes as being right?
I believe this question to be one that needs serious answering from the generations prior to us born after the 80’s.
So much of our society is predicated upon their decisions having been the correct one, or closest to it; with the mistakes constantly popping up to remind us all they were just as fallible as those they decried prior to them.
And we too, will probably do the same; lest we get in control of the situation prior to that repetition of history once again.
Break the cycle, so to speak, we must.
But that means we must question everything in society.
Everything.
That is no small task.
And so, to whom which generation will be made responsible for this task, of breaking this cycle, of testing everything?
So far, it seems the Millennial Generation(s) will be taking up that mantle.
I mean, they (The Boomers and Gen X) call(ed) us the Y generation. They thought they were being sly, but as history will prove; they were possibly the dumbest generation(s) of all.
And I mean that, to those who might fall under those generational labels. You can’t fault me for it either, when for decades we have put up with being the blame for everything you didn’t like about modern society as it was at one point or another, and so you changed things, again and again; and continued to blame us to this day.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but that sounds pretty much like text book narcissism to me, with a few other possibilities sprinkled in for good measure.
But again, it’s not like we are perfect here either. The mistakes already are piling up on our side as well. It’s only been a few years since status quo has been able to be considered ‘changed’ at all now.
So, that’s pretty pathetic on our part too. Makes a lot of what they claimed we were ‘like’ without even knowing us properly yet, seem truer than it should be.
But we still have the advantage of being able to correct course, since we only just came into being the ruling generations of society. It’s just a matter of time before we become replaced by the next one as well; before talking about birth rates and etc.
What it all boils down to is this. While we still have the nicety of being ‘new to this’ as it were, we ought to make use of that grace period we have in testing the ‘truths’ of society while we still can.
But we must do so carefully, for the pillars of our human civilization may also rest on some of those mistakes being left well enough alone. We may end up making things worse in an attempt to make things better. Good intentions leading to yellow brick roads to emerald cities and all that.
My suggestion on the first thing to be tested?
How about something probably mostly safe to implement.
A trickle down tax. Let’s make the trickle down effect of capitalism actually exist.
The more you make, the more you keep, but the more you give, the less we take.
So, tax the rich, but rebate the giving, essentially. But never rebate more or equal to what is given, otherwise there is no point to it.
This gives the rich a way to be philanthropist in their ways, but also in ways they wish to be so. We already do this, to some degree as well with tax deductible donations. We’ll just be repackaging it up into a different format so that it’s more of a… benefit… to be giving, lest they wish to lose more for having been greedy.
This also allows for governments to essentially dictate to the rich the programs they want to see invested in the most. But they should do so carefully, because the rich may just decide to compete with them instead. Or just leave, that is a possibility always too.
Anyways. This was supposed to be a short thought, and you can expect more of these to come in the future days as well. I’ll try to keep them briefer than this.
Any thoughts or comments, feel free to leave them below. Remember, none of this is meant to target anyone particularly, but when talking about things like society, we sometimes needs to be a little blunt, direct, or even general about things to get the point across. Don’t take anything too personally, please. Thank you.
